“Cracker” Horse Portrait is a life-sized equine portrait of a client’s beloved race horse.  The brief was to capture and celebrate the character of the horse which had performed so remarkably at Ascot races.   

 

The structure of the head was first worked up in clay, with reference to a horse skull which we were fortunate enough to be able to borrow.  To ensure a likeness, a visit was arranged to the client’s stables for a photo shoot.

The majority of the portrait was then modelled from the photos, but to achieve the vibrancy and life like quality one last visit to the stables to model the finishing touches from life. It went on show at the Mall Galleries, London, 2013
