The brief was to design and carve "something" as a monument for a private cherry woodland in South Devon. After many discussions and ideas a bespoke classical semi-circular garden bench was chosen. The whispering bench was to sit at the top of the valley looking over the woodland and out to sea, this combined with the clients love of the ocean made a nautical theme the natural choice.

The second requirement was that the bench was to be carved in a honey coloured stone, so Bath Limestone was chosen because of its durability and therefore suitability to an exposed location.
